Shield your captures from night dew and mount standard 2" filters with an optimized optical profile on the ZWO Seestar S50 Pro.
The Shield dew shield does not attach directly to a bare telescope. It requires the magnetic base of either a Quick-Release or Anti-Drop baseplate.
👉 If purchasing for the first time, make sure to select an option with an included baseplate from the menu above. The "Dew shield only" option is intended solely for customers who already own an Azur3dprint baseplate.
Carbon PETG dew protection, integrated 2" filter retention, and optimized conical geometry
Heavy night condensation and stray lateral light are the worst enemies of long imaging sessions on the ZWO Seestar S50 Pro. Precision manufactured in Cannes, France, the Shield Modular Dew Shield solves this challenge while acting as a rock-solid 2" filter holder. Crafted from Carbon-Fiber reinforced PETG (PETG-CF), it combines ultra-light construction to preserve tracking motors with uncompromising structural rigidity.
📐 Optimized Conical Light Path ($1.5\times D$)Its conical profile, flared to 55.36 mm across a 75.2 mm free length, is engineered strictly around the optical cone. The dew shield barrel itself adds zero mechanical vignetting to the incoming starlight. |
🔒 Universal 2" Lock Spacers IncludedEquipped with a retaining lock system and a set of 1 mm spacer rings. Standard 2" astronomical filters (M48), from slim cells (5 mm) to standard thick profiles (6 mm), are securely clamped without play. |

The upper cone of the Shield dew tube adds zero mechanical vignetting. However, because the baseplate (whether Quick-Release or Anti-Drop) directly houses the mechanical socket for 2" (M48) filters, the inner collar naturally intercepts a marginal amount of light, approximately only ~8% in the extreme corners of the frame (preserving over 92% relative illumination across the sensor). This minor geometric falloff is completely normal for 2" filter adaptations and is 100% eliminated using standard master flat frames during calibration.
💡 The craftsman's tip: "On the Seestar S50 Pro, condensation cuts integration time short without an effective dew shield. If you invest in high-end Dual-Band filters, we strongly suggest the Anti-Drop baseplate option: it prevents your optical investment from crashing onto hard gravel during an automatic mid-night park cycle."

No. The Shield dew tube is a magnetic module that docks onto one of our kinematic baseplates (Quick-Release or Anti-Drop). Without this baseplate attached to the Seestar S50 Pro chassis, the shield has no mounting point. First-time buyers must select either the Pack with Quick-Release Baseplate or the Pack with Anti-Drop Baseplate.
The Quick-Release plate provides 100% motor protection by ejecting the assembly forward during an auto-park cycle, but it drops to the surface if you have not removed it prior to shutdown.
In contrast, the Anti-Drop plate safeguards the entire setup: the Seestar arm closes unobstructed while the articulated hinge swings aside, holding the stack safely suspended without dropping anything to the ground.
The dew shield itself does not introduce any additional vignetting to the stage. Its flared shape ($1.5\times D$) was specifically calculated to align with the optical path and avoid introducing vignetting at the top.
However, since the mounting baseplate houses the mechanical socket for 2" filters directly before the objective, the inner lip naturally intercepts approximately 8% of light in the extreme corner pixels (maintaining over 92% field brightness). This slight edge falloff is standard in astrophotography adaptations and is fully calibrated out when applying standard flat frames.
