When running long Milky Way time-lapses, star trails, or nightscape captures on your ZWO Seestar S50 Pro, only the secondary wide-angle sensor is working. Leaving the primary 50 mm lens exposed all night long invites heavy condensation, frost, pollen, and airborne particles for zero optical benefit. Precision manufactured in Cannes, France, the Wide Field Baseplate shields the primary objective while providing an unobstructed, low-profile optical window for wide-field imaging.

🔬 Field Engineering: Optics Protection & Compactness

🛡️ Primary Objective Barrier

Firmly seals and caps the 50 mm triplet objective during wide-angle runs. Protects delicate front anti-reflective coatings from unnecessary dew cycles and airborne contaminants.

📐 Low-Profile Clear Port

The aperture facing the wide-angle camera is chamfered outward to guarantee zero corner shadowing. Its slim mechanical thickness prevents dew accumulation around the sensor without requiring an extra dew shield.

🌌 Optional 2" Filter Tulip: Wide-Field Narrowband Imaging

For astro-imagers looking to capture expansive Milky Way structures under light-polluted skies or reveal large emission nebulae in narrowband, our 67.4° Tulip Mount snaps onto the baseplate:

  • Calculated 67.4° Flared Cone: Allows the 6 mm context sensor to clear the 2" filter glass with zero edge falloff.
  • Standard M48 Thread: Holds standard 2" Dual-Band or light-pollution filters completely flat and stable.

⚙️ Configure your hardware setup:

1. Kinematic Park Safety System:

  • Quick-Release Baseplate: Direct magnetic plate fitted with a "Remove Before Park" flag. Ejects the unit forward during an unexpected park cycle to protect internal motors.
  • Anti-Drop Baseplate (+€12.00): Articulated hinge with "Pull To Release" latch. Pivots clear of the crush path at park without ever detaching from the Seestar S50 Pro.

2. Optional 2" Filter Tulip:

  • Select the baseplate alone for pure lens protection during time-lapses, or add the 67.4° Flared Tulip for wide-field 2" filter experimentation.
